UN ESEMPIO DI CLOUD DAL MINISTERO PER L'EDUCAZIONE ARGENTINO

With increasing interest amongst operators in using cloud business models to generate new revenues, there is also increasing awareness that a carrier’s cloud partner needs to have the resources to provide managed, hosted and flexible cloud services across the IT and communications domains.

One example of how NEC's cloud capabilities address those needs can be found in Argentina, where NEC has delivered a cloud solution for the Ministry of Education in San Juan. This implementation transformed a convoluted and inconsistent system that could not meet the needs of its users into an end-to-end network solution for 400 workstations in 192 schools and administrative offices.
Faced with a failing system, the Ministry required a voice and data network to connect its main office with 192 schools. Improving security was also a priority for the Ministry. They wanted to integrate biometric access control to secure data processing and development areas

Utilizing desktop virtualization and IP telephony - all based in a secure data centre - NEC’s solution now provides users quick and easy access to Internet, email, file sharing via Web portals, and a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony service.

This secure cloud solution, customized for the Ministry of Education, delivers the security and cost-savings of DaaS (Desktop as a Service), SaaS (Software as a Service) and PaaS (Platform as a Service) methodologies through the data center. Each school is networked with the Ministry of Education and its management offices via NEC's UNIVERGE SV8500 Communications Server, an open standards application server that can support voice, unified communications and mobility solutions for tens of thousands of users.

The desktop virtualization solution improves the performance and maintenance of PCs, while lowering the cost of ownership. Better integration and mobility of work is possible with the virtual workstations.

Currently, the Ministry of Education is extending the voice and data network to incorporate approximately 350 other schools. This project expansion will integrate thin clients and telephones for the rest of schools of the province.
